*German, Mid-20th Century Style, “Kriegsmarine” Cap Tally (Gold-Backed Variant)*
A “Kriegsmarine” cap tally in the traditional black-and-gold style associated with German naval dress, measuring approximately 127.5 cm long and 3 cm wide. The front displays the familiar Gothic script in golden thread, while the reverse is finished in a full gold/yellow backing. This reverse construction differs from the standard wartime black-backed examples and is generally associated with post-war production runs, following the wartime pattern.
Historical Note: The generic “Kriegsmarine” tally became the standard wartime issue across the German Navy, replacing earlier ship-named bands. It was worn by sailors across surface ships, U-boats, E-boats, auxiliary vessels and shore establishments, tied at the rear in the distinctive two streaming ends seen in period photographs.
*Condition* Good overall condition with bright front lettering and only light age markings to the gold reverse. No tears or damage to the ribbon. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
