The Mauser C96, produced from 1896 to 1937, is a semi-automatic pistol, with this specific model (Serial 691744) dating between 1923 and 1930, the Mauser logo is on the left rear frame panel. It features a safety mechanism marked “NS” (Neues Sicherung or New Safety) and “744” on the hammer. To engage the safety, the hammer must be moved past the cocked position. The pistol bears the engraving “Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A/N” on the barrel’s top and a Crown/U proof mark, typical of Mauser firearms made before 1940 when it changed to an Eagle/N proof mark. A slot for a stock holster is cut into the back strap.
The Mauser C96 distinguished itself with its long barrel and high-velocity Mauser cartridge, offering superior range and penetration compared to contemporary pistols. It saw action in various conflicts, including colonial wars, World War I, the Irish Civil War, Estonian War of Independence, Spanish Civil War, Chinese Civil War, and World War II. During China’s Warlord Era, it gained popularity due to European rifle export embargoes and was widely copied. In the Russian Civil War, Bolshevik commissars favored it, even using it in the execution of the Russian imperial family. Notable figures like Winston Churchill, Lawrence of Arabia, and Ram Prasad Bismil used the Mauser C96 in battles, while Chinese communist general Zhu De carried one during the Nanchang Uprising.

Overall the pistol is in good condition. The weapon is deactivated to old spec. Cocks and dry fires. The makers mark and serial numbers are still clear and visible. Considerable pitting all over. The Lanyard ring is not present. Deactivation certificate included. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
