French 1833 Pattern Naval Cutlass

Here we have a good example of a French 1833 pattern naval cutlass, most probably a Crimean war period.

The blade is etched with a pair of anchors, one of each side.

On the ricasso a pair of inspectors marks can be seen.

The edge of the blade is etched with the manufacturer’s mark “La Manufacture d'armes de Châtellerault”.

The Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault , nicknamed La Manu , is a French arms company located in Châtellerault , created in 1819 and disappeared in 1968.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade’s length is 66 cm and the overall length of the piece is 80 cm.

The width of the piece is 15 cm

It weighs 1kg.

~ Condition ~

The blade developed a nice patina and some minor pitting.

The grip and the basket remain in good condition.
