*English Pewter Tankard – Hunts Benevolent Cup Winners 1951*

A mid-20th-century English hammered-finish pewter tankard, attractively crafted with a fully hand-textured surface, rolled rim, and solid strap handle. The underside is stamped ENGLISH PEWTER, typical of good-quality British production in the 1940s–1950s. One side is engraved:

HUNTS BENEVOLENT CUP
WINNERS
1951

Measurements: approx. 10 cm tall, 9.4 cm base diameter, 7 cm top diameter.

Historical Note:
Hammered pewter enjoyed a strong revival during the interwar and post-war years, heavily influenced by the lingering Arts and Crafts movement and demand for hand-finished, rustic domestic metalware. Local sporting associations, social clubs, and benevolent societies commonly commissioned engraved pewter tankards as affordable and durable award pieces during this period. The Hunts Benevolent Cup engraving places this firmly within that tradition.

*Condition*
The tankard shows a naturally aged pewter patina with expected handling marks and surface wear. The hammered texture remains crisp and visually appealing. The engraving is clear and still sharply cut. There is a notable dent on one side of the base, visible in photographs. The interior shows period dulling and light residue from use. The handle remains tight and secure. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
