~Edison Standard Phonograph and Records~

Thomas Alva Edison is said to have invented the phonograph or 'talking machine' on the 21st November, 1877 but had been experimenting with the idea of cylinder voice recording for some time. It was the first commercial product of its kind as people , with access to both a device and several cylinders, could record and replay their own voices at will and was extremely successful until the easier to store and cheaper to mass produce disc records took over both the commercial market and in terms of scientific development.
