~ Circa 1830s Love Token Snuff Box & Love Letter ~
A love token and letter dating to around the 1830’s.
The love token is a small hand carved cow bone box with a hinged lid.
It is etched with floral decoration, a scene of a house and what appears to be a mother and her son. There is also some writing which appears to be
possibly German.
Inside is a hand written letter of love with the unusual words:
‘Always be loved and not to possess, Forever loved but not to possess, Should you forget me ever, You would be killed (or eaten) by the weir wolf,
Bottom’.

The box measures 8cm (3 inches) by 5.5cm (2 ¼ inches) by 3cm (1 ¼ inches).
It weighs 48g.
~ Condition ~
The piece is in a nice condition with only light age wear.
