Here we have a man trap, a mechanical device for catching poachers and trespassers.

Landowners would set steel mantraps in their gardens, they used stick held the jaws open ready for the unwary trespassers to step on the plate. When they did, the catch was released and the toothed jaws on steel springs snapped onto the s leg. The traps were supposedly designed not to break a leg but this was poor consolation because they did smash the bones and cripple the victim for life.

~ Dimensions ~

The man trap is 5ft 9 inches tall.

~ Condition ~

The man trap is in a good condition for its age with some damage to the trap and some wear from ageing.

It is untested.
