~ Circa 1785 Royal Worcester Coffee Pot In Blue And Gilt ~

The coffee pot has a vivid and intense tone to the blue under-glaze used for the flower-heads and sprigs. The skill of the gilder confirms this as a quality production piece. The use of a fine rounded dentil ring continued at the factory well into the 1780's.

This coffee pot is thick and heavy, with a noticeably blued glaze which helps to distinguish it from Caughley where somewhat similar designs were made using their creamy-glazed body , with gilding added by Chamberlains. The same gilders will have been responsible for the coffee pot, as the thick honey gold dates this piece to Flight's factory before the departure of the Chamberlain family in 1788.

The coffeepot was previously part of the American Zorensky family private collection, sold at Bonhams in the early 2000's.

~ Condition ~

There is a small chip to the inside of the lid, otherwise it is in excellent condition.

~ Dimensions ~

The coffee pots stands at 23 cm (9 inches) tall and measures 18 cm (7 inches) from the tip to the spout.
