Circa 1785 Holmes Of Liverpool Flintlock Muff Pistol None Muzzleloader

Out of stock

SKU: JA_499641183 Category:

The box lock pistol has the gunsmiths name “Holmes” on the left side “Liverpool” on the other, both surrounded by a stand of arms.

The underside of the barrel also has three proof marks.

The pistol has a number of safety features as concealed weapons were easy to snag and accidentally discharge. As there is little room for a bulky trigger guard the pistol has a drop-down trigger. There is also a safety that slides forward to lock the trigger in the closed position and it has a small pin that blocks the hole in the frizzen to prevent the priming powder from spilling.

The mahogany butt is chequered to the rear with a blackened steel cartouche.

It comes complete with a flint.

~ Dimensions ~

The twist off barrel is 1.75 inches (4.5 cm) long and the overall length is 6 inches (15.3 cm).

The pistol weighs 260g approx.

~ Condition ~

The metalwork has a healthy patina.

The pistol half cocks, cocks and releases with a strong spring. The safety catch works well.

The twist of barrel will need releasing.

The drop-down trigger is a little loose and hangs slightly if shaken.

The stock is complete and a good fit.
