~ c1920 Plaster Wall Memorial Plaque Of The British Poet Rupert Brooke ~
The Arts & Crafts plaster plaque of Rupert in relief is finished in a pleasing copper tone and has a hook at the top.
The plaque bears his name and dates of birth and death.
Underneath is the casters name - W Heffer & Sons Ltd of Cambridge.
Rupert Chawner Brooke (3 August 1887 – 23 April 1915) was an English poet known for his idealistic war sonnets, especially "The Soldier," written during the First World War. He was also known for his boyish good looks, which were said to have prompted the Irish poet W. B. Yeats to describe him as "the handsomest young man in England." He died of septicemia following a mosquito bite while aboard a French hospital ship moored off the island of Skyros in the Aegean Sea.
