*British, WWII Style, Royal Air Force (RAF) Pilot's Badge, Sweetheart Brooch, Enamelled, Later Production*
An attractive RAF enamelled sweetheart brooch – a later production piece in WWII style, ideal for display or wear.
A Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch in the form of RAF pilot’s wings, measuring 4.5cm wide x 2.4cm tall. Gilt metal construction with enamelled detail, featuring a central blue enamel roundel with intertwined RAF letters, laurel wreath surround, and red-enamelled crown above. Beneath, a scroll with blue enamel carries the wording "ROYAL AIR FORCE." Reverse fitted with a simple horizontal pin clasp.
Historical Note: Sweetheart brooches became popular during both World Wars, serving as tokens given by airmen to loved ones at home. This design closely follows the RAF brevet wing motif used in WWII-period brooches. However, the construction and finish of this example suggest that it is of later production, made in the style of the 1940s originals. Such items were often produced for RAF anniversaries, remembrance events, and air shows, maintaining continuity with wartime designs.
Condition Report: The brooch retains a strong gilt finish with bright enamel detail. Light age-related patination to the reverse, with some oxidation to the pin. Enamel remains in good condition without major loss. The clasp is intact and functional. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
