A large and colourful WWII RAF enamel sweetheart brooch, worn with pride by loved ones of airmen during the war.
A Second World War period Royal Air Force (RAF) sweetheart brooch, finely detailed with outstretched enamelled wings, a blue enamel centre bearing the letters RAF, and surmounted by a red enamel King’s Crown. The brooch is constructed in brass with enamel inlay and fitted with a horizontal pin-back clasp. Measuring 5.5cm wide by 1.9cm tall, this is a larger-than-usual example, designed to be worn proudly on a lapel or dress.
*Condition *
The brooch displays age-related wear with areas of enamel loss and chipping, most noticeable to the blue enamel centre. The brass has developed surface patination and light verdigris, particularly to the reverse, consistent with wartime age. The pin and clasp remain present and functional. Overall, a well-preserved and authentic example of RAF sweetheart jewellery with attractive period charm. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
