*British, WWII era, Royal Navy Sweetheart Brooch, HMS Mauritius, Enamel & Gilt*

A WWII-era Royal Navy sweetheart brooch for HMS Mauritius, measuring approximately 3.9cm in diameter. The brooch is designed in gilt metal in the form of a lifebuoy, set with the ship’s enamelled crest. The badge depicts a crossed trident and key above stylised blue waves, with the ship’s name “HMS Mauritius” in blue enamel scrolls, surmounted by the Naval Crown.

Historical Note:
HMS Mauritius (C80) was a Crown Colony-class light cruiser launched in 1939 and commissioned in 1941. She took part in convoy duties and fleet operations across several theatres, including the Mediterranean, where she supported the Allied landings in Sicily and Salerno. Later she served in Arctic convoy protection and in operations in the Far East, earning multiple battle honours before being paid off in 1965.

Sweetheart brooches of this type were popular wartime tokens, often worn by loved ones to keep a visible connection to those serving at sea.

*Condition*
The brooch retains its bright gilt finish and enamel detail, with its original fastening pin intact. Some minor wear and small areas of age-related patination are visible to the reverse, but overall the piece presents very well. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
