The Africa Star is a British military campaign medal established on 8 July 1943 to recognize service by British and Commonwealth forces in North Africa between 10 June 1940 and 12 May 1943 during World War II.
It was among the first two campaign stars created during the war, along with the 1939–43 Star (later renamed the 1939–1945 Star). By May 1945, a total of eight campaign stars and nine clasps had been instituted by the United Kingdom to acknowledge wartime service. Later additions included the Arctic Star and the Bomber Command Clasp, introduced on 26 February 2013. A maximum of six campaign stars could be awarded to any individual, with certain clasps signifying eligibility for additional stars. However, only one clasp could be worn on each campaign star.
