*British, WW2, RAF Sweetheart Brooch, Mother-of-Pearl & Silver Bar*

A WWII period Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch, measuring 3cm wide by 4.5cm tall including the hanger. The RAF badge with King’s Crown, red enamel crown detail and blue enamel motto Per Ardua Ad Astra (“Through Adversity to the Stars”), is mounted on a lozenge-shaped mother-of-pearl plaque. Suspended from a bar brooch fitting, faintly stamped SILVER to the reverse.

Historical Note:
Sweetheart brooches were popular gifts for wives, fiancées and girlfriends of serving airmen during the Second World War. The design carries the RAF’s famous motto, in use since the days of the Royal Flying Corps in 1912, and the King’s Crown dates the piece to George VI’s reign (1936–1952).

*Condition*
Good overall condition with light surface wear and some tarnish to the silver mount. The enamel is intact with only minor rubbing. The mother-of-pearl backing is undamaged, displaying natural iridescence. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
