This is a Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk1/2 (F) FTR model. The Mk1/2 has been changed from a Mk1 to a Mk2 and differs from the usual No.4 rifle with a minor technological upgrade. The Mk2 features the addition of a small steel block on to the No.4 receiver. This was precisely drilled after instillation to ensure perfect alignment of the trigger action which mitigated the effect of moisture in the trigger. This change was made by the Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley which was the sole facility used by the British to rehabilitate rifles.
This particular rifle has many stamps across all parts including crow’s foot, proof marks, serial numbers and manufacturer’s marks such as SM (Singer) on its rear sight. It also has “Co Ltd” and a crow’s foot in the underside of the butt stock but the manufacturer’s name is not visible.
