A genuine Siebe Gorman helmet bolt wrench, cast in brass and measuring approximately 10.5cm across the handle, 11cm tall, with the wrench head 4.6cm x 3cm. Designed for use with Siebe Gorman diving helmets, the tool allowed divers or tenders to securely fasten or remove the locking bolts that held the breastplate and helmet assembly together. The T-shaped handle provided firm grip and leverage, even with gloved or wet hands.
Historical Note: Siebe Gorman & Co. Ltd., founded in London in the early 19th century, became the leading manufacturer of diving equipment worldwide. Their helmets and suits were the standard for the Royal Navy and commercial diving for over a century. This type of wrench was an essential part of the diver’s toolkit, ensuring the watertight integrity of the classic copper and brass helmets that defined deep-sea diving in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
*Condition* Constructed of solid brass with an aged patina and scattered surface wear from service use. The wrench remains robust and functional, with a naturally mellowed finish showing areas of oxidation and handling marks. No structural damage, only expected signs of age and genuine working use.
