Victorian 1901 Pattern Royal Navy Cutlass
The 1901 Pattern is the last of a long line of cutlasses of the Royal Navy.
The blade is marked on one side of the ricasso with the broad arrow above ‘N’, the inspector’s mark 35W beneath the crown and with the ‘Wilkinson London’ manufacturer’s mark.
The other side is stamped with a pair of inspector’s marks and dated ‘5/01’ (May 1901).
The edge of the ricasso is marked with the date ‘00’ (1900 – manufacturing date) and with a factory inspector mark.
The grip is a chequered grip made of two parts connected five bolts.
~ Dimensions ~
The blade length is 68 cm and the overall length of the piece is 80 cm. Its width is 13 cm.
It weighs 1.3 kg.
~ Condition ~
The blade is in very good condition with some pitting, but no rust.
The paint of the basket is chipped.
The grips are in overall good condition with some chips on one side. Please refer to the pictures.
