*British, Post WWII-Korean War, Royal Navy HMS Snipe, Sterling Silver & Enamel Sweetheart Brooch*
A charming Royal Navy sweetheart brooch for HMS Snipe, crafted in silver with enamel decoration. The badge depicts the ship’s crest: a snipe in flight on a sky-blue enamel field, set within a rope border, surmounted by a naval crown, and with "H.M.S. SNIPE" scroll below. The badge is suspended from a silver bow brooch, a classic sweetheart style popular in the Second World War period. Both bow and badge are stamped SILVER to the reverse.
The brooch measures approximately 3.9 cm wide by 4 cm high.
Historical Note: Sweetheart brooches were treasured keepsakes given by serving sailors to wives, fiancées, and family members during wartime, as a symbol of devotion and pride. HMS Snipe was a Modified Black Swan-class sloop launched in 1945, serving in the immediate post-war Royal Navy and later during the Korean War. The crest reflects the bird from which the ship took its name, rendered here in fine silver and enamel.
*Condition* The brooch shows age-related patina and tarnish to the silver, particularly to the reverse, with light pitting consistent with its age. The enamel remains largely intact with some expected surface wear. Pin and clasp in working order. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
