*British, Edwardian, Eagle Head Sword Stick Cane with Concealed Dagger, Collapsible, Named to “Peter Fraser”*

A decorative eagle-headed sword stick cane featuring a concealed dagger blade housed within the shaft. The cane is fitted with a cast brass eagle head handle, the bird’s eye and feathering engraved in relief, forming the grip of the weapon when the blade is drawn.

The handle unscrews to reveal a narrow steel dagger blade concealed within the upper shaft section. The cane itself is constructed in three threaded sections, allowing it to be dismantled for ease of transport or storage. The shaft is finished in black lacquered wood with brass ferrules and threaded connectors.

A small brass name plate is fitted to the upper shaft and engraved “Peter Fraser.” The exact significance of this name is unknown but likely represents a personal ownership plate added after manufacture.

Approx. Measurements – Blade length: 16 cm. Overall length (blade and handle): 22 cm. Overall length (assembled walking stick): 87.5 cm

History Note:
Sword sticks (also known as cane swords) were popular accessories during the 19th century, particularly among gentlemen who wished to carry a discreet means of self-defence. Many Victorian examples incorporated concealed blades, flasks, or other tools within their shafts.

During the late 20th century a large number of decorative reproductions were produced, particularly in India, inspired by Victorian “system canes.” These often feature sectional shafts with threaded brass fittings and animal-head handles such as eagles, dogs, or horses. While generally intended as curiosities or decorative pieces rather than serious weapons, they remain popular with collectors of unusual walking sticks and concealed-weapon canes.

*Condition*
Good overall condition for display. The brass eagle head retains a good patina with minor surface wear. The steel blade shows scattered surface corrosion and staining consistent with age and storage. The black lacquered shaft shows small chips and wear to the finish. Threaded sections remain functional and the cane assembles securely. The name plate shows light tarnish. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
