*British, 1889, Asprey of London Victorian Walking Stick with Hallmarked Silver Pommel, Monogrammed*

A fine Victorian gentleman’s walking stick, the substantial silver pommel of rounded knop form, applied with an ornate monogram in Gothic script, that looks like N.T.M. The collar is clearly hallmarked for London, 1889, with maker’s mark C.A for Charles Asprey, and stamped ASPREY, 166 New Bond St. The shaft is fashioned from a natural knotted wood branch, retaining good character and patina, measuring 96cm in length.

Hallmarked “C.A over C.A” (maker’s mark), lion passant (sterling silver), leopard’s head (London Assay), date letter “O” (1889), plus Asprey, 166 New Bond Street.

Historical Note:
Asprey, the renowned London luxury goods house established in 1781, has long been associated with fine craftsmanship and exclusive clientele. By the late 19th century, Asprey was firmly established at their Bond Street premises, producing luxury silver, jewellery, and fine accessories. Walking sticks of this calibre were fashionable symbols of refinement, often personalised with monograms for their distinguished owners. This piece, hallmarked 1889, sits firmly within the Victorian era when Asprey’s reputation as a leading luxury retailer was flourishing.

*Condition*
The silver pommel displays small bruises and surface dings consistent with use, though all hallmarks remain crisp and legible. The wooden shaft has attractive natural grain and patina with age-related wear, including an old split towards the base. The original ferrule is now absent, leaving the tip slightly rough, though this is a common loss on Victorian examples and does not detract from display. Overall, an honest and presentable walking stick of good character. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
