Blade: Kings crown over Royal Crest over GVR ('between 1910 & 1936')
Obverse side: Kings crown over Royal Crest over Light Infantry Bugle

The blade is etched on both sides with intricate foliate and floral scrollwork and features the ribboned horn of the rifles. The blade ricasso bears the standard six-pointed star surrounding a brass plug stamped "PROVED" with an "R" in the center. On the reverse, it displays the maker/retailer information: "Moss Bros & Co Ld, 20 & 21 King St, Covent Garden, W.C." The brown strap/tassel/acorn, introduced in 1899, was used universally in the Infantry. The gothic steel guard features an oval cartouche containing the crowned, strung horn badge of the rifle regiment.
The 1827 Pattern Rifle Regiment Sword is distinguished by its all-steel hilt and the replacement of the usual royal cypher with a strung bugle in the cartouche, symbolizing the use of the bugle to command rifle troops instead of the drum used by the Infantry of the Line. Later Victorian-era versions were nickel-plated, superseding the original steel hilts. This sword pattern is still carried by Rifle Officers in the British Army.
Originally raised as the King’s Royal Rifle Corps in 1755, the Rifle Brigade was officially formed in 1800. Officers of this elite unit were known for their distinctive individuality in both uniform and tactics, which eventually led to the adoption of their own unique sword pattern.
