The Bowie knife is a large, fixed-blade knife that was originally designed in the early 19th century by James Bowie, a famous frontiersman and folk hero of the American West. The Bowie knife has a long, clip-point blade that is sharpened on one edge and curves upward to form a pointed tip. The blade measures 249mm. The handle is bone effect with one large brass rivet and two smaller ones, a brass pommel and brass guard. The roman numerals I.XL are stamped on one side of the guard and I.V R on the other. The letters on the top of the blade are hard to decipher but maybe II U.S. The scabbard is leather stitched with the addition of three brass rivets at each point. There is a decorative rosette in the center with a brass rivet in the center.
Bowie knives are versatile tools that can be used for a variety of tasks, including hunting, camping, and self-defense. They are often associated with the American West and have become an iconic symbol of the frontier era.
