~ A Long Service 1853 Pattern NCO's Two Band Enfield Musket Dated 1857 ~
This is an example of a two band sergeants’ Enfield service musket.
The barrel is heavily stamped by the Victorian inspectors, over the years and serial numbered in the front of the fixed rear sight “401”. Also, on the left side of the sight is named “T.S. Ben”. The barrel's tang is stamped behind the alignment marks “89”.
The lock plate is stamped VR beneath the crown, “1857 TOWER” and crown above the broad arrow.
The second band is also stamped with a pair of inspectors marks.
~ Dimensions ~
The barrel is 31 ½ inches (80 cm) long and the overall length of the musket is 48 inches (122 cm).
It weighs 3.15 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The musket is in good used condition for its age.
It has been cared for over the years and it preserves its original blue on the metal components.
The hammer half cocks, cocks and releases with a strong spring. There is a problem though, as the trigger tends to get stuck in the “fire” position and has to be pushed beck manually. Not a serious problem, most probably a week spring.
