~ 19th Century Pinfire revolver Presented by King of Italy Umberto to Garibaldi ~

A lovely presentation historical piece offered to the revolutionary and creator of modern Italy, Giuseppe Garibaldi by King Umberto Ist of Italy as a sign of recognition of his merits.

The revolver is an exceptional gold-inlaid piece made by F.Ill Rocco Inc., a very well known manufacturer of the time from Milano.

The piece comes with all its accessories and a small silver ammo box with the royal crest on it. Please see the pictures for details.

The possesion of the pistol followed then a long route as follows: Don Pierto Quarrtano di Calogeras gave it to his grand niece Cirma Baileys who on her turn left it to her son Nico who on his turn gave it to his brother-in-law Col. Sir W M Everett.

Giuseppe Garibaldi was a central figure in the Italian Risorgimento, the 19th-century movement that led to the unification of Italy. A revolutionary nationalist and soldier, he became famous for his volunteer forces, the “Redshirts,” and for his bold military campaigns. His most decisive achievement was the Expedition of the Thousand in 1860, during which he conquered Sicily and southern Italy, overthrowing the Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Rather than establishing a republic, Garibaldi handed his conquests to King Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia, enabling the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.

King Umberto I (born 1844) was still a young prince during the main phase of Italian unification. After 1861, as Italy consolidated into a kingdom, Garibaldi and Prince Umberto encountered one another on official and ceremonial occasions, particularly during the Third Italian War of Independence in 1866, when both were involved in the national military effort (Garibaldi as commander of volunteer forces, Umberto as a Savoyard officer).
