~ 18th Century Signed Shinto Wakizashi Sword In Red Lacquered Scabbard With Kozuka ~

The iron tsuba features stylised celestial dragons. The tang is double signed ‘Made by Sukesada of Osafune, Bizen province’ (備前国長船住祐定作) and dated ‘a day in February 1723’ (享保八年二月日).

The scabbard is finished in a pleasing deep red lacquer with a black lacquer band near the tsuba. It is fitted with its signed Kozuka (a small knife) with foliage scroll work, stored in the Kozuka Hitsu (groove of the sheath of the Japanese sword).

An excellent and very tidy example.
