~ 18th Century Rapier Blade Patta ~

The sword has a long, slender and flexible blade, reinforced over the ricasso.

The guard has a hand grip and a movable wrist strap with gold, embossed floral edging.

~ Patta ~

The pata or patta, is a sword originating from the Indian subcontinent, with a gauntlet integrated as a handguard. It is often referred to in its native Marathi as a dandpatta, it is commonly called a gauntlet-sword in English.

~ Condition ~

The guard has a shallow dent, the blade edge a couple of nicks, otherwise in good order.

~ Dimensions ~

The patta is 129 cm (49 inches) in length with a 96 cm (38 inches) blade.
