1796 Infantry Officers Blue & Gilt Spadroon and Scabbard

Here we have a blue & gilt officers Spadroon, a common form of sword from the late 18th and early 19th centuries used prominently during the Napoleonic wars by armies on both sides of the conflict but most recognizably the British (and their German allies) and by the French.

Our example is a combat sword which most probably has seen quite a bit of action. This piece is essentially a backsword with a less protective guard with a cut and thrust blade.

The lower half of the blade is blued and gilt foliage and arms drums and banners decorated.

The grip still preserves its quilion and folding guard flap along with its original carved wooden grip and elaborate pommel.

The sword comes with its original black leather scabbard, which it is quite a rare thing.

~ Dimensions ~

The blade is 32 ½ inches (82 cm) long.

The overall length of the sword is 39 inches (99 cm) long.

It weighs 950 grams.

~ Condition ~

The sword has aged significantly and developed some amount of surface rust.

The blue & gild section remains quite visible all the way though.

The grip has split due to its age.

The scabbard is word, as seen in the pictures.
