The stamp issues for the 1940 General Government were issued by the Deutsche Reichspost for the General Government established a year earlier. Overprint of a red cross and the surcharge in red on the new stamps of the definitive stamp series printed in grey-olive. It depicts the courtyard of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Red Cross. The stamp was designed by the Austrian Erwin Puchinger 1975-1944. Between 1938 and 1943, Puchinger and his wife Elfriede regularly exhibited at the Great German Art Exhibitions in Munich. Three of his paintings were acquired by Adolf Hitler . In 1944 he was included on the God-gifted list.
