~ WW2 Nazi German Staff Car Flag Captured in Arnhem during Operation Market Garden ~
We have here a good example of a historical piece that was used on the German staff cars during the Second World War.
During Operation Market Garden in September 1944, the primary UK military police unit deployed at Arnhem was the 1st (Airborne) Divisional Provost Company, part of the Corps of Military Police (CMP).
The piece was brought back by a soldier of this unit. We have the piece from the granddaughter of this soldier.
Key details about the unit at Arnhem:
Commanding Officer: Captain William Buchanan Gray.
Strength: Approximately 69 men were part of this unit during the operation.
Role: The Provost Company was responsible for maintaining discipline, managing traffic, and handling prisoners of war (POWs). During the battle, they acted as combat troops, with heavy casualties (7 dead, 49 caught/injured).
Deployment: They landed as part of the 1st Airborne Division, which was tasked with capturing the Arnhem road bridge in September 1944.
~ Dimensions ~
The piece is 28cm long by 26 cm wide.
