~ WW2 Nazi German Iron Cross Second Class Medal ~
The WW2 German Iron Cross Second Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1939) was a combat decoration awarded for acts of bravery or military merit. Reintroduced by Hitler in 1939, it was given across all branches of the armed forces. The medal featured a blackened iron core edged in silver, with a swastika on the front and the date “1939,” while the reverse displayed “1813” to reference its Prussian origins.
Recipients typically wore it on a black, white, and red ribbon through the tunic buttonhole rather than as a full medal. Though widely awarded, it symbolised personal courage and marked a significant recognition of service in battle. Today, it is a collectible artefact reflecting both military tradition and the historical context of Nazi Germany.
