*WW2, 1942, US .30 M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine, Semi Automatic Rifle, with Folding Stock*

Serial number 15756, 18" barrel, .30 cal. Magazine marked IW. The serial number indicates that this was made by Inland Manufacturing Division of GM between May 1942-Sept 1943 who made 999,994 of these rifles, serial number range 6-999999; only 140,000 of these were the M1A1 variant with the folding stock.

The M1 carbine, a lightweight semi-automatic issued in the U.S. military during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, gained immediate popularity for its lightness and maneuverability, despite its limited power. The M1A1, developed for airborne troops, featured a metal skeleton folding stock and was exclusively produced by Inland Manufacturing Division of General Motors. About 140,000 M1A1s were manufactured, with two production runs of approximately 70,000 each— the first from late 1942 to October 1943, and the second from April 1944 to the end of 1944.

The leather cheek pad and the rivets are likely to be replacement parts. The sight looks like 1944 issue - micrometric machined (adjustable sight, milled construction). The trigger is 2nd model (Type II) introduced in 1944.
