~ WW1 German Imperial U-Boat Badge ~

The U-Boat Badge was a German war badge that was awarded to U-boat crew members during World War I and
World War II. The U-boat War Badge was originally instituted during the First World War on February 1, 1918. It was
awarded to recognize U-boat crews who had completed three war patrols.

Made of brass, the badge is oval shaped in the form of a wreath of laurel leaves with a submarine to the centre and
the Prussian Crown atop.

This differs slightly from the Second World War version on which the Prussian crown was replaced with a German
Eagle and swastika and featured a slightly altered submarine.

The badge is stamped with the makers mark of ‘Walter Schot fpc.’ and has a hinged clasp of white metal to the
reverse.

~ Dimensions ~

The badge measures 4.5 cm (1 ¾ inches) by 5cm (2 inches).

It weighs 18.9g.

~ Condition ~

The badge has a little greening in parts due to oxidation over time but this will come off with a polish.

The hinged clasp has loosened over time but is still in working order.

Otherwise the badge is in a very good condition with only light wear from age and use but has no damages.
