Made at the Gebr. Reerink Tannery and leather belt factory near Frankfurt in 1917/8.
The stamp has 1917 with 18 stamped on top of the 17 at some point. Excellent example, with lovely patina and colour.
The Gewehr 98 (abbreviated G98, Gew 98 or M98) is a German bolt action rifle made by Mauser firing cartridges from a 5-round internal clip-loaded magazine. It was the German service rifle from 1898 to 1935

Great condition for its age, the stamp is clearly legible and it only has the minimal of marks that you would associate with its age.
