~ WW1 Crested China French Army Adrian Helmet With Southsea Crest ~

A quirky piece of crested ware, a model of the French M15 Adrian helmet. The maker is unknown.

This was the first standard helmet of the French Army and was designed when millions of French troops were engaged in trench warfare, and head wounds from the falling shrapnel generated by indirect fire became a frequent cause of battlefield casualties. Introduced in 1915, it was the first modern steel helmet.

~ Condition ~

There is a nibble to the edge of the rim on the side opposite to the crest. The crest is great, the gilding is worn in places.

~ Dimensions ~

The piece is 7.5 (3 inches) in length.
