An earthenware baking dish or loaf dish dating to the late 18th century.
This is a large and heavy dish in a rounded rectangular form.
It is decorated with meandering lines and dots of cream slip dribbled horizontally upon a dark brown ground with a pale amber glaze beneath (glimpses of which are seen in areas).
The underside is unglazed.
The piece is possibly a Buckley, North Wales piece but as there are no marks it is difficult to say for sure. It was sourced from that area where it has been in the same family for generations.
~ Dimensions ~
The dish measures 32cm (12 ½ inches) by 41cm (16 inches) with a depth of 6.5cm (2 ½ inches).
It weighs 3.16Kg.
~ Condition ~
The glaze has some crazing and quite a bit of scratching. There are quite a few areas of wear and some chips to the edges but not structural damages or repairs.
