William Lionel Wyllie (1851-1931) was the pre-eminent Victorian maritime artist, well known for his etchings. It is rather rare to find a portrait by the artist.
The painting is presented in a gilt, wooden frame, it is single mounted and glazed.

The frame is in good order, a few minor chips. The image is nice and clear, some very light and minor foxing.
