~ Victorian Walnut Writing Slope ~
A late Victorian writing slope in walnut with brass fittings.
The interior features a red leather writing surface, both side of which open to reveal two storage areas.
The slope has two ink wells and two covered storage compartments for pens, nibs etc.
The smaller compartment conceals a mechanism to open a ‘secret’ compartment with two drawers (see images).
~ Dimensions ~
The slope when closed measures 35cm x 23.5cm x 15cm (13 ¾ inches x 9 ¼ inches x 6 inches).
When open has a length of 48cm (19 inches).
It weighs 3.16 Kg
~ Condition ~
There are small, fairly minor areas of chipping and cracking to the wood throughout, thoughthe slope has no major issues.
The leather surface is split down the centre and is coming away at the edges in parts. There is also some wrinkling to the leather.
The main lock has no key and the inner locking switch which hold the upper part of the slope in place is damaged and does not work.
Overall the slope is in decent condition with some cosmetic wear but no major issues.
