~ Victorian 9ct Yellow Gold Amethyst & Pearl Mourning Brooch ~
This is a lovely Victorian mourning brooch incorporating 10 oval-cut amethysts and 24 small round pearls.
To the centre of the brooch is a glass panel which would have been a place to put the hair or keepsake from a loved one. This is framed by the pearls which are in turn framed by the amethysts.
This is all set onto a yellow gold backing with a rose gold centre.
The brooch is secured by a pin clasp to the reverse.
The brooch is not hallmarked but has been tested positive for gold.
~ Dimensions ~
The amethysts measure approximately 0.5 carats (6mm by 4mm) each.
The pearls measure 1.5mm in diameter each.
The brooch measures 24mm by 27mm.
It weighs 9.1g.
~ Condition ~
One of the amethysts has a small crack and the glass to the centre has some damage but overall the brooch is in a nice condition for its age.
