This document, is a pivotal artifact of 20th-century history, the original order of the day issued to the "Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force" before D-Day. General Eisenhower drafted it from January 1944, and due to uncertain landing conditions, it remains undated, printed just before D-Day for distribution. Issued by 'SHAEF' (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force) on behalf of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, the order aimed to impress upon Allied forces the significance of their mission on the eve of the June 6, 1944, D-Day Landings. Following the successful invasion, Eisenhower's order was widely distributed beyond the armed forces, reaching a crowd of 50,000 people in New York's Central Park on the evening of June 6 and subsequently featured in books and films about the war.
