*USA, Commemorative “Remember the Alamo 1836” Bowie Knife, leather sheath*
A large, commemorative Bowie-style knife bearing an etched/acid-filled blade inscription reading “REMEMBER THE ALAMO. 1836 / THE LAST STAND OF / JIM BOWIE, BILL TRAVIS, DAVY CROCKETT.” The blade is 27.2 cm long, 3.8 cm at its widest point and the overall length is 41.7 cm. The blade has a clipped/angled point and a bright, polished finish with the lettering and decorative flourishes visibly etched and filled dark. The knife is fitted with a simple brass crossguard and slab wooden grips secured with three pins (one large domed rivet and smaller peened pins). The tang runs full length. The leather sheath is riveted and stitched, plain in style, with a belt strap. C
History note: Blades and souvenir knives commemorating the Alamo became popular tourist and patriotic items throughout the 20th century. This example uses the familiar iconography — names of Jim Bowie, William (Bill) Travis and Davy Crockett — and a large decorative inscription to market the knife as a historical memento rather than a period original.
*Condition* Overall good used condition. Blade finish is bright and polished with the etching/ink fill generally intact. The guard has small knocks and light surface abrasion. The wooden grips are intact with minor knocks and age staining, and light general wear to edges. The leather sheath is complete and stitching is intact though rivets show surface corrosion. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
