*USA, c.1960s–1970s, Savage Arms Stevens Model 79 Pump-Action Shotgun, Model 13, 12-Bore, Old Specification Deactivated*

A Savage Arms–manufactured Stevens Model 79 pump-action shotgun, Model 13 variant, chambered for 12-bore cartridges and offered here in old specification deactivated condition. This example cocks and dry-fires correctly and retains its full external configuration, with sliding fore-end, tubular magazine, exposed hammer, and correct period woodwork throughout.

The shotgun is fitted with a 49 cm barrel and plain bead front sight, with the receiver and barrel retaining a consistent aged finish showing attractive service wear. Of particular note is the decorative hand-engraving applied to the receiver, featuring stylised flying waterfowl and foliate motifs to both sides, giving the piece strong visual appeal and a distinctive folk-art character.

The wooden buttstock and fore-end are well-figured and show honest handling wear consistent with age and use, fitted with a ribbed black butt plate. Overall, this is a visually striking and mechanically complete example of a classic American pump-action shotgun, suitable for display or collection.

Marked to the left-hand side of the barrel:
“STEVENS MODEL 79”
“12 GA 2 ¾ & 3 INCH SHELLS”
“SAVAGE ARMS, WESTFIELD, MA, U.S.A.”

Additional markings include:
“MOD. 13” stamped to the left-hand side of the barrel
“.719″ · Crown over BNP · 12◊ · 3″ MAG · 4 TONS PER □″ · GBⓄ”

Approx. Measurements – Barrel length: 49 cm. Overall length: 100.5 cm.

Historical Note
The Stevens Model 79 was a mid-20th-century American pump-action shotgun produced under the Stevens brand following its acquisition by Savage Arms. Designed as a robust and affordable sporting and utility shotgun, the Model 79 was offered in several variants, including the Model 13, and chambered to accept both standard and magnum 12-bore cartridges.

Stevens-branded shotguns were widely sold in North America and exported internationally, gaining a reputation for reliability and straightforward design. Pump-action shotguns of this type were commonly used for sporting, pest control, and security roles, and examples surviving today in deactivated form are increasingly collected for their iconic profile and strong association with post-war American firearms manufacture.

*Condition*
