The American BLU-36 is a High-Explosive Fragmentation (HE-Frag) aerial dispensed submunition with a time delay fuze, a variant of the BLU-26/B APAM fragmentation bomblet, part of the Bomb Live Unit (BLU) series.
Diameter: 64 mm (2.5 in)
Comprising two hemispheres held together by a crimp ring, the BLU-36's bodies are aluminum, housing steel fragmentation balls. They utilize the M218 impact time delay-fired fuze and are olive drab with a small yellow dot.
Each BLU-36 contains approximately 85 grams of explosive charge, and they lack external features to distinguish between BLU-26, 36 & 59 submunitions. As they are dispensed, the air-stream spins the munition to arm the fuze through centrifugal force.
The BLU-36/B served as payload in various cluster bombs, including the CBU-24/B, CBU-24A/B, CBU-24B/B, CBU-24C/B, CBU-29/B, CBU-29A/B, CBU-29B/B, and CBU-29C/B.
This was originally prepared for sale by ESAG - the Engineering Science Aviation Group, founded in 1992 to fundraise for Royal Air Force Charities. Their website says "1996 saw the Group embark on a more focused fundraising programme which involved us producing our own merchandise which we sold at a number of venues including airshows and RAF Families' Days. Some of the items were a little dubious to say the least such as BLU36 Area Denial Practice Bombs and 5kg Smoke & Flash Bombs"
