*USA, 1987, Smith & Wesson Model 439 Semi-Automatic Pistol, Old Spec Deactivation*

A deactivated Smith & Wesson Model 439 semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Parabellum. This example bears the serial number TAZ5619, which corresponds to the included London Proof House deactivation certificate dated 2nd October 2007. This Smith & Wesson Model 439, serial number TAZ5619, dates to circa 1987. Finished in blued steel with an alloy frame, it features aftermarket Pachmayr “Signature Model” grips, marked “Pachmayr, Los Angeles U.S.A.” with patent numbers; these were popular among law enforcement officers and civilian shooters during the 1980s. The pistol retains fully moving parts, including working slide, trigger, hammer, and safety catch, consistent with old-spec UK deactivation standards.

Markings:
-Left side of slide: SMITH & WESSON
-Right side of frame (above trigger): S&W trade mark logo (stylised “S&W” within a circle)
-Right side of slide (forward): MADE IN U.S.A. / MARCAS REGISTRADAS / SMITH & WESSON / SPRINGFIELD, MASS.
-Right side of frame (forward of trigger): TAZ5619 / MODEL 439
-Barrel chamber (visible through ejection port): 9MM PARABELLUM (right side) and additional inspector’s/proof marks (left side)
-Grips (both sides): Pachmayr “Signature Model” rubber grips, embossed with Pachmayr / Los Angeles, USA and patent numbers.

Historical Note
The Smith & Wesson Model 439 was part of the company’s second generation series of semi-automatic pistols, introduced in 1979 as an update to the earlier Model 39. Chambered in 9mm Parabellum, it combined a lightweight alloy frame with a steel slide and a double-action/single-action trigger system. The Model 439 quickly gained popularity among US police departments during the 1980s, bridging the transition from revolvers to high-capacity semi-automatics. Though later superseded by the 5900-series and polymer-framed pistols, the 439 remains a significant design, representing Smith & Wesson’s development of reliable duty sidearms during a period of great change in American law enforcement.

*Condition*
This pistol is presented in good condition, with a clean blued finish showing some handling wear and light surface marks. The aftermarket Pachmayr grips are well-fitted and intact, providing a solid hold. All parts remain mechanically functional to deactivation standard, with full external operation of the slide, hammer, trigger, and safety. Barrel is correctly blocked and inspection stamps are present. Complete with its original London Proof House deactivation certificate. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
