An original United States Military Payment Certificate (MPC), Series 471, denomination 25 cents, serial B03425610B. Printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and issued for use exclusively within US military establishments by authorised personnel during the immediate post-Second World War occupation period. Strikingly produced in red and blue intaglio with ornate scrollwork, framed denomination panel, and Series 471 markings at lower left. The reverse displays the official usage restriction over pale blue scrollwork with the Great Seal of the United States below.
Historical Note Series 471, introduced from March 1947, was the earliest full issue of the US Military Payment Certificate system. MPCs replaced Allied Military Currency in post-war occupied territories such as Germany, Austria, Japan, Italy, and Korea. Their purpose was to curb black-market activity by ensuring US personnel used a controlled, non-convertible currency within PXs and military facilities. Notes were subject to sudden “conversion days” to render hoarded or locally circulated examples worthless. The 25-cent note was widely used and is now a classic example of early Cold War-era military finance.
*Condition* The note is in circulated condition with soft folds, creasing, light edge wear, and minor surface toning consistent with handling. Colours remain clear, text fully legible, and paper intact without major tears or losses. A presentable and honest circulated example of this first-issue MPC denomination. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
