*US, WW2, Auto Ordnance Thompson M1 Sub Machine Gun, "Tommy Gun", Matching Serial Numbers, Deactivated*

Serial No: 150156, .45 Cal, 10" Barrel Length

The Thompson submachine gun, also known as the "Tommy gun," "Chicago typewriter," "Chicago piano," "trench sweeper," or "trench broom," is a blowback-operated, selective-fire submachine gun conceived by United States Army Brigadier General John T. Thompson in 1918. Intended to break the stalemate of World War I trench warfare, early models did not see combat due to timing. Production spanned from 1921 to 1945.

In 1938, the U.S. military adopted the Thompson submachine gun for use during World War II. The M1 and M1A1 variants were characterized by provisions for box magazines only, lack of cooling fins on the barrel, simplified rear sight, and a straight blowback action with the charging handle located on the side of the receiver.

Stamped on the barrel:
"Auto Ordnance Corporation Bridgeport. Connecticut. U.S.A."
"Trademark, Thompson, Reg. U.S. Pat. Dept."
"Thompson Submachine Gun, Caliber .45 MI. No 150156"
"15016" also stamped by the trigger on the underside.
