One notable firearm, the Hellcat Rifle, is produced by the Croatian company HS Produkt d.o.o. The 1970s marked a global shift toward smaller, lightweight, high-velocity military cartridges like the 5.56mm, enabling soldiers to carry more ammunition with ease. Consequently, in 1970, the U.S. recommended the adoption of the 5.56×45mm cartridge for NATO forces, leading to a shift in military caliber preferences and the subsequent standardization efforts by NATO beginning in 1977.
