*US, 1985, Colt New Frontier .22 LR Single-Action Revolver with White Grips, 6 Barrel, Deactivated*
Serial number G220317.
A genuine Colt New Frontier .22 Long Rifle single-action revolver, manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut in 1985, and professionally deactivated to UK standards. The New Frontier model was Colt’s modernised interpretation of the classic Single Action Army, retaining traditional “Wild West” styling while incorporating adjustable target sights and a ramped front sight for improved accuracy.
This example features a 6-inch blued barrel, six-shot fluted cylinder marked “.22 L.R.”, adjustable rear sight with elevation marking, and correct factory roll-marked barrel legend “NEW FRONTIER .22” alongside Colt’s Hartford address. The revolver is fitted with desirable period Western-style white synthetic grips featuring a moulded horse-head motif, which complement the Western aesthetic.
Historical Note: Introduced in 1961, the Colt New Frontier was designed to appeal to shooters and collectors who appreciated the iconic lines of the Single Action Army but desired more modern, target-oriented sights. Chambered in smaller calibres such as .22 LR, these revolvers became popular for sporting use and recreational shooting while maintaining strong links to America’s frontier imagery.
By the mid-1980s, production numbers were relatively modest compared to earlier decades, making later examples such as this 1985-dated revolver increasingly sought after, particularly when retaining original markings and configuration. Deactivated Colt New Frontier revolvers are now highly collectible in the UK, especially when accompanied by original proof documentation.
*Condition* Cocks and dry-fires. The revolver displays very well overall, retaining strong original blued finish with areas of heat-related colouration consistent with professional deactivation. All markings remain clear and legible. The grips are in good order with minor age-related marks. Mechanism components remain present but inert as per deactivation regulations. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
Professionally deactivated and certified by the London Proof House on 9 March 2005 under Section 8 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988. Deactivation Certificate Number: DA 37140. Submitted by: Falcon Gun Company, Tonbridge, Kent. No firearms licence required. Certificate included and serial-number matched. This is a pre-2016 UK deactivation, retaining excellent external appearance and original character.
A documented, late-production Colt New Frontier .22 LR, manufactured in 1985, with desirable 6-inch barrel and adjustable sights, professionally deactivated and accompanied by its original London Proof House certificate. An excellent display piece combining Colt quality with classic Western styling.
