A stunning ring of 18ct gold set with one oval-cut blue sapphire and sixteen round, brilliant-cut diamonds.

The diamonds surround the sapphire and all the stones are claw set.

The band is slim and plain with split shoulders with simple decoration.

The ring is not hallmarked but has been tested and verified as 18ct gold by a professional jeweller (see images).

The ring comes with paperwork from a local jeweller detailing the item and an insurance valuation.

The sapphire was bought back from Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, by a British soldier who served there in WW2, apparently.

The sapphire measures 9.45mm x 7.15mm x 4mm – approximately 2.0 carats.

The diamonds measure 2.1mm in diameter – approximately 0.03 carats each.

The ring is a UK size Q which is a US size 8 (18.19mm inner diameter).

The ring weighs 5.4g.
