~ Sterling Silver 1915 WW1 Memento Lock of Hair ~

This remarkable piece holds a significant place in both social and military history. It is a sterling silver Royal Hampshire Regiment locket, hallmarked in London in 1915. Inside the locket lies a cherished lock of hair, accompanied by a small scrap of paper inscribed with the words "Erm's Hair" — a poignant reminder of personal connections during wartime. This has to be one of the most poignant items we have listed for sale in some time. On the back of the locket, two dates are engraved: 13.11.15 and 29.9.17. While their exact significance is unknown, the later date coincides with the Battle of Ramadi. These dates may represent the individual's enlistment in the Royal Hampshire Regiment and their passing, adding a powerful layer of historical mystery to this sentimental artefact.
